Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions investors, architects, and contractors ask us most.
What is seismic isolation?
It is a protection system that places flexible devices, the isolators, between the foundation and the building. By lengthening the vibration period, it reduces the forces and accelerations that reach the structure, its occupants, and its contents.
When is seismic isolation mandatory in Peru?
Seismic isolation standard E.031 requires base isolation for new category A1 healthcare facilities (public and private, second level of care and above) located in seismic zones 4 and 3.
How much does it cost to isolate a building?
The initial added cost is usually marginal compared to the reduction in risk and losses over the building's service life. It depends on height, configuration, and soil; we estimate it at the schematic design stage.
How does energy dissipation differ from isolation?
Isolation decouples the building from the ground; energy dissipation adds devices within the structure that absorb part of the earthquake's energy. Dissipation is usually the better fit for tall buildings.
What is early concrete and steel quantity estimation?
It is a service based on in-house software that estimates reinforcing steel and concrete quantities before detailed design, so decisions can be made while changes are still inexpensive.
What does it mean for a deliverable to be construction-ready?
It means it has already passed the independent review by the quality department. The preliminary deliverable, reviewed by the project lead, is suitable for quantity takeoffs but not recommended for construction.
Do you work in BIM?
Yes. We develop structures in BIM at LOD 300 to 400, with an execution plan, automated quantity takeoffs, and clash detection, under Plan BIM Perú and ISO 19650.
Do you carry professional liability insurance?
Yes. We carry liability insurance that covers repairs or other costs arising from a proven error in the structural design. All of our software is licensed or developed in-house.
